ITANAGAR, Jul 31: The two-way traffic between Itanagar and Naharlagun has been finally opened for light motor vehicle from today onwards. Earlier due to the damage of road in multiple areas near Papu Nallah, the traffic coming from Naharlagun was diverted towards Jully. While talking to this daily T. Soki, Executive Engineer PWD Capital Division informed that heavy vehicles will continue to ply via Jully road till further notice.

Resentment against PWD continues

Roing, July 31: Expressing strong resentment over the handing over of the Bomzir-Pasighat 63km stretch of Arunachal Trans Highway from the BRO to the PWD, the Dibang Right Bank Idu-Mishmi Charitable Society of Dambuk circle has appealed that the construction should be handed over to the BRO for better work quality and expedite work.

President of the society, Atek Linggi said," People of Dambuk sub-division are enraged over this step of the Government. If the decision is not recalled by the Government, the society will resort to democratic agitation".

The issue of this handing over has been causing uproar in the Dambuk sub-division, as it is widely accepted that BRO is more apt in delivering quality work compared to PWD. The general public of the area had also earlier threatened agitation if this handing over follows through.

 

Khao-wa  observed with devotion

ITANAGAR, July 31: The practitioners of Theravada Buddhism across the state observed the Khao-wa with great enthusiasm and devotion today. Khao-wa, popularly known as Buddhist Lent or Rains Retreat, is the three-month annual retreat instituted by the Buddha himself. The retreat extends between the full moon of July until the full-moon day of October. During Khao-wa, the monks dwell permanently in their temples except in unavoidable circumstances.

Khao-wa is a period for many practitioners of Theravada Buddhist to reinvigorate their spiritual training and adopt more ascetic practices, such as giving up meat, alcohol or smoking.

In Itanagar Theravada Buddhist temple, the day was observed by donating offerings to temple and listening to Dhamma talks and spiritual guidance of Head monk of temple Venerable Ratnadeepa.

 

Measures on to retrieve BSNL store items

ITANAGAR, Jul 31: Informing that the BSNL store at Banderdewa has been damaged during the recent flood and items like telephone cables, PCM cables, PLB pipes and antenna mount pipe etc, have been buried in mud, the All Arunachal Pradesh BSNL Civil Contractor Welfare Association  (AAPBSNLCCWA)  has  today informed that it has inspected the store recently to take stock of the damages and engaged labour and machinery to retrieve the BSNL items and machinery worth crores.   

While stating that the damaged cables and telephone exchange are being restored on war footing by the BSNL authority and the AAPBSNLCCWA which has caused low mobile connectivity within the Capital Complex, the Association further appealed the general manager BSNL to initiate early steps for speedy completion of the work.

 

Vishal Bhardwaj  to shoot  in Arunachal

PASIGHAT, July 31: After giving so many hit films like Haider, Omkara, Kaminey, Maqbool etc, renowned Bollywood filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj is now ready  for shooting of his next film "Rangoon" in Arunachal Pradesh.

Saif Ali Khan, Sahid Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut will be in lead roles  in the film which will be produced and directed by Sajid Nadiadwala and Bharadwaj respectively, informed the filmmaker while interacting with the govt officers here at the Siang Guest House, Pasighat today.

Bharadwaj along with his six-member team visited Ziro (Lower Subansiri) on Jul 29 and arrived at Pasighat on Thursday. The team visited Komsing bridge point, Bodak, Raneghat rafting site, Partung etc to identify good locations for the film.

 

Complaint against alleged road diversion

ITANAGAR, Jul 31:   The Tungi Welfare Society (TWS) has in a letter to the East Kameng DC has complained against the Seppa Division RWD EE for alleged  diversion of PMGSY road from 51 Km point of Seppa-Chayang Tajo to Sawa road  to Tungi Bodo village- Bodo to  Sawa headquarter.

It claimed that the Seppa-Chayang Tajo to Sawa road has been already completed as per the report of the Seppa Division RWD ARRDA chief executive officer however; a new order has been issued by the RWD EE directing the diversion of the same road which has created confusion amongst the villagers.

Such abrupt diversion of road will lead to huge loss on the part of the villagers since about 12 Kms of cultivable land, 20 nos. of Ranbaan fields and numerous plantation areas were badly damaged in the road construction work, TWS said and appealed the DC to issue an order for temporary stoppage of the diversion work.

While questioning the alleged controversial order, the TWS further   demanded the suspension of the EE and other erring officers of RWD Seppa Division. It also sought compensation for the damages incurred by the villager's due to the said work.  

 

Awareness campaign on Dengue and Malaria

ITANAGAR, July 31: The Kurung Kumey District Health Society (DHS) has conducted a Dengue and Malaria awareness campaign under DVBDCSP in various Govt schools including VKV and KGBV at Koloriang town on July 26 last.

Speaking on the occasion as resource persons Kurung Kumey DMO Dr. Higio Tama, Koloriang MO Dr. Boni Tuluk and  Gyamar Taku, MI cum AMO  in-charge  stressed on the  need of preventive measures against diseases like Dengue and malaria and use of LLIN bed net. LLIN bed nets were also distributed on  the occasion.

 

‘Construct permanent road soon’

ITANAGAR, Jul 31:   Informing that the villagers of Rime Moku, Pidi and Tode Rime have repaired the PMGSY link road from Rime Moku to Nyorak Rakte village via Pidi/Tode Rime village, which was damaged in a recent landslide on self help basis, the Ubu Anchal Samity chairperson Ribi Rime has appealed the Aalo Division PWD EE to depute officials for spot verification of the aforementioned site and prepare estimate for obtaining fund for early construction of a permanent road.    

The road is currently used by the people of Yomcha, Kamba, Darak and Menchuka circles besides, Aalo as an alternate road since the road from Aalo to Bam is presently in a bad shape, the Anchal chairperson said and further appealed the state government and PWD in particular, to take early steps to repair the said road and construct a permanent road from Rime Moku to Nyorak  Rakte via Pidi-Tode Rime villages on priority.

 

Two accused declared proclaimed offenders

ITANAGAR, Jul 31: One Niraj Saikia of Panigaon and Raju@ Dulu Borah of Jamunamukh village under Nowgong Sadar Police Station of Nowgong district, Assam have been declared proclaimed offender in Naharlagun Police Station Case no. 66/14 U/S 302/392/201/34 IPC by the Session Judge, West Sessions Division, Yupia.

Both the alleged accused have been directed to appear before the court to answer complaint on August 8, informed SP Capital Devender Arya.

 

Union seeks CS's intervention

Roing, Jul 31: The All Idu Mishmi Students Union (AIMSU), in a letter to the Chief Secretary, has requested the office to intervene and instruct the Head of Departments of Dibang Valley district to perform their duties sincerely by being available in their respective offices.

In the letter, dated the 27th of July, AIMSU has tried to draw the attention of the Chief Secretary towards the non-responsive attitude of the HODs of the Dibang Valley district, and most importantly, their absenteeism.

The letter also states that the Dibang valley district is one of the most remote and under developed district of the state, which remains cut off from the rest of the country during the rainy season, and the constant absence of the HODs makes the functioning of their offices non efficient, making the district incapable of catching up to the parameter of development.  

The union has earnestly requested the Chief Secretary for immediate action in this matter.

 

Drug awareness camp held

ITANAGAR, July 31: The Tax and Excise department of the state Govt in association with Tarhuk Samaj (NGO) Kopila, Kurung Kumey district has organized a one-day drug awareness camp for school children at Govt. Higher Secondary School, Naharlagun today.

 Resource persons  of the camp including Dr. A Borang, Deputy Director, Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society, Naharlagun  and Tolum Takar,  Chairman, Tarhuk  Samaj  exhorted the  students  to stay away  from bad habit and use of narcotic substances for better  future.

 

Spl Army recruitment rally

ITANAGAR, July 31: For raising the Arunachal Scouts, the Ministry of Defence is conducting a special recruitment rally for candidates of the state for recruitment into General Duty and Technical posts of the Indian Army.  

The basic academic qualification for 450 general duty posts is 8th standard and 10+2 standard for 250 technical posts. The candidates who intend to appear for the recruitment shall have to register themselves online and file their application by logging in to the official  Indian Army website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in. Online registration compulsory for Army recruitment

ITANAGAR, July 31: Indian Army has gone online with a redesigned website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in for enrolment of officers (less Union Public Commission entries) and recruitment for Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs)/ Other Ranks (OR) in consonance with the concept of digital India.

On line registration which commenced from July 01, 2015 has replaced the existing open rally recruitment system where candidates could just walk-in with their documents for recruitment.

Online applications for a particular rally can be filled 60 days prior to the rally dates as given in the rally schedule and will be closed 15 days prior to commencement of particular rally. Performa for online registration is available on Army website.

There is no change in recruitment procedures except that candidates can attend recruitment rally only when they have registered and filed up online applications, according to a  press release issued by Army Headquarter Recruiting Zone (NE States), Shillong. DIPR

ITANAGAR, Jul 31:  Claiming that Govt. Middle School Bormai under Tarasso circle has been facing shortage of teachers, the 40 Bormai Panchayat ASM Ngurang Tatung has in a letter addressed to the Papum Pare deputy director school education today appealed him to initiate early steps to post sufficient teachers at the said school.

While drawing the DC's attention towards the problems being faced by the students due to shortage of teachers, the ASM said that the academic career of the students will be adversely affected since only 2-3 teachers are functioning in the said school.

ITANAGAR, Jul 31: President-XI Football Club (President-XI FC) edged past Donyi Polo Gangging Football Club (DPGFC) 1-0 in the Itanagar Solung Football Tournament played at DNGC Playground here this morning.

The winning goal was scored by Minik Damin, aged around 56 years and one of the oldest players of the tournament.

In the second match of the day, Giidi Yameng Football Club (GYFC) beat Siisang Yameng Football Club 1-0. Nong Padung, captain, netted the only goal of the match in the second half.

Siang United Football Club got a walk over against Donggin Football Club, who failed to turn up for the match due to unavoidable reason, informed SFCCI-2015 games & sports secretary Tarok Lomtung.

DK Memorial Badminton Championship

ITANAGAR, Jul 31: Badminton Association of India (BAI) has nominated renowned international Badminton Referee H. Gyaneswor Singh, who is also an Executive Member of (BAI) will oversee the matches of the 3rd Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Open Badminton Championship-2015 as observer. He will also conduct a certificate examination for the state level umpires.

Affiliated District Badminton Associations, clubs or any interested persons may take part in the examination.

Singh will be arriving at State Capital on August 17.

Intensify ILP checks, says Kurung Kumey to neighbouring districts

Koloriang minor rape case

KOLORIANG, July 31: Kurung Kumey District Administration has urged the District Administrations of Papum-Pare, Lower Subansiri and Kra-Daadi to  intensify checking of Inner Line Permits at police check gates located at Kimin, Yazali and Palin. This appeal was made at a meeting to review the safety, security, law and order situation of the District held today at district headquarters following a reported rape of a minor girl by one Md. Azhar Ali, 46 years old labourer at Koloriang Township yesterday.

 Many people from neighboring states are found coming to Kurung-Kumey district without possessing valid ILPs, said a statement from the Kurung-Kumey District Administration  as they added that the alleged rapist too has no ILP in his possession.

The alleged perpetrator of the crime is a permanent resident of Ramnath Para Village, in Dhubri District (Assam) and had come to Koloriang two months back to work as daily labourer.

The meeting was attended by officials of District Administration, Police Officials, Phassang Bunghi, President, All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) Kurung-Kumey District Unit, Market Welfare Committee, PRI members.

Chairing the meeting Cheechung Chukhu, EAC, I/c Deputy Commissioner has directed the Police for strengthening regular night patrolling in vulnerable locations of Koloriang Township.

Meanwhile, the Police have registered case at Koloriang Police Station vide No. 26/2015 U/S 376 IPC read with Section 3/4 of POSCO Act 2012, arrested the alleged accused, and produced him before the competent court yesterday. He has been remanded to judicial custody for seven days.

The IO of the Case has stated that the investigation is on and all legal formalities are being minutely followed to avoid any kind of procedural lapses and for framing a fair charge sheet of the case.

Taking Suo-moto cognizance of rape of minor girl  Yame Higio, Member Secretary, Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) APSCW, Itanagar  met the ADC  Chukhu Chichung  and Officer-in charge  K .L. Pertin to get the status of the case. After a meeting with the District Administrator, Panchayat leaders and various NGOs, the Member Secretary along with the Circle Officer Ngurang  Pingkap  and President, ANYA Kurung Kumey  Unit  Passang Bunghi met the  victim.

The APSCW praised the Koloriang Police for immediate arrest of the alleged accused and further requested the authority to expedite the investigation.

The APSCW also requested the Police to guide the victim to claim the compensation under the Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Act.

 

 

Deliberate destruction of road for contract work

ITANAGAR, Jul 31: The allegation of deliberate destruction of road by the people living along important roads of capital has emerged. While government officials refuse to make any statement in this regard, sources have told this daily that in many areas the citizen themselves indulge in destruction of road, so that they get contract work for repairing.

"Neither PWD nor highway department has made any official complaint but it is widely alleged that in many areas such incident took place. It would be unfair to blame all the people living near road but few vested interest people do indulge in deliberate destruction of road.  Later they go around seeking contract of repairing, claiming that they belong to the particular area," shared a person who knows about this syndicate.

He further alleged that even though government official are aware about such illegal activities but they take no action to punish the wrongdoers.

 

 

State Govt approves Rs. 25 Cr. for Housing Board, eight districts offer land

ITANAGAR, July 31: The state government has granted Rs.25 crores as seed capital for Arunachal Pradesh State Housing Board (APSHB), informed Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi while presiding over the 2nd sitting of APSHB held on July 30.  The Board will open a current account in the Arunachal Pradesh State Cooperative Apex Bank and the seed money should be transferred to that account, Negi  said.

Regarding housing schemes he informed the members present in the meeting that land offer for housing projects has come from eight districts, namely, Upper Subansari, Lower Subansari, Siang, Upper Siang, Dibang Valley, Tirap, Tawang and Itanagar (Capital).

"The housing board will acquire the land first then an expression of interest will be sought from the interested buyers for purchase of 2BHK (80 sqm) for MIG and 3 BHK (120 sqm) for HIG category respectively. The project will be implemented subject to a minimum booking of 30 flats in the districts and 100 flats at Itanagar. Preference will be given to local residents of the districts except Government employees and their spouses/ dependent children who do not own a house. The flats at Itanagar will be open to all. However, priority will be given to the local people, the Chef Secretary informed. Negi further informed that expression of interest will also be sought from the experienced project consultants for preparation of detailed projects reports (DPR) including architectural design. The regional chief, HUDCO, RO, Kohima has been requested to provide loan and consultancy services to the Housing Board for land acquisition as well as for construction of flats/ houses. As a prequalification they have also been requested to give a power point presentation of projects being taken up by them in the four NE states, namely, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram preferably by August 12 at Itanagar.

Tibetan refugees availing APST facilities illegally: AAPSU

ITANAGAR, Jul 31: All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) has demanded immediate cancellation of various types of licenses, certificates issued to Tibetan refugees without proper investigation.

In its representation to the Chief Secretary, AAPSU claimed that many Tibetan refugees settling in the state have obtained trading and arm licences, voter ID cards, Schedule Tribes (ST) certificate, contractor registration certificate, land allotment certificates issued by various Govt. authorities/departments without making proper investigation.

Even, many Tibetan refugees have obtained income tax exemption certificate claiming themselves as Monpa and Sherdukpen tribes of West Kameng and Tawang, it claimed.

AAPSU cited an example of one such suspected Tibetan refugee, who have class one contractor's registration certificate where he refrained himself from mentioning his father's title. They are availing these facilities meant only for the Scheduled Tribes people of Arunachal Pradesh in spite of enjoying various other facilities like land (for their settlement), school for education, shelter for old persons, health centres, machineries (tractor) for agri-horti activities and other micro and small industries provided by the government, claimed the representation.

 

 

Lokayukta selection committee formed

ITANAGAR, Jul 31: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki chaired the first meeting of Selection Committee under Arunachal Pradesh Lokayukta Act 2014 today.

 The meeting which was attended by selection committee members, Justice B K Sharma, Judge of Gauhati High Court and Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi discussed at length on the procedural issues and modalities for constitution of search committee under section 4 of sub-section 3 of the Arunachal Pradesh Lokayukta Act 2014.

The committee further resolved to convene their next meeting in the end of August month. With this meeting, the process of constitution of Lokayukta for Arunachal Pradesh has begun. (Media Cell, CMO)

 

 

Pasighat feel the heat as power cut continues

PASIGHAT, Jul 31: There has been no respite from power problem and the unscheduled power cut has brought the normal lives of the local residents of Pasighat  to a complete standstill. Massive power cut has compelled the local consumers to seek alternative power supply arrangement at extra cost.

Erratic power supply at Pasighat is not only an irritation for general public, businessmen and students, but it also hits normal functioning of various government departments. The power situation in the district has gone from bad to worse this year.

There has been no improvement in power scenario even after connection of 33 KV line from Assam to Pasighat via Jonai as the entire area is reeling under severe power crisis. The construction of 132 KV Aalo-Pasighat tower line, which was scheduled to complete in 2009, is not yet completed even after repeated assurance made by the authority.

The power department's failure to meet power demand at Pasighat has reportedly compelled Pasighat People's Welfare Committee (PPWC) to resume its movement against the authority. The PPWC, which took a series of agitation against the department last year, compromised on the issue after the state's Chief Minister, Power Minister and higher ups of power department assured of lasting solution to the problem before March 31 of current year.

"Adequate funds were released by the state government for completion Aalo-Pasighat 132 KV transmission tower line and to ensure constant power supply at Pasighat area. But, there is no work progress even after the deadline for work completion. The power department has miserably failed to mitigate the electricity problem", the irritated consumers lamented.  The chairman of PPWC, Okom Yosung in a statement said they had full faith on the assurance made by the authority and called-off their further agitations, but the ritualistic promises made by the minister and power department engineers yielded no positive result.

"The power department engineers are accustomed to show lame excuse like technical snags at main power supply source for irregular power supply in the area, which cannot be accepted by the people. We will not tolerate any further delay in completion of Along-Pasighat 132 KV line", Yosung cautioned.

PPWC is organizing a mass public meeting at Pasighat tomorrow to chalk out future course of action regarding power problem.

 

 

APWWS seeks activation of special court

ITANAGAR, Jul 31: Arunachal Pradesh Women's Welfare Society (APWWS) has sought immediate activation of special court in every district of the state to deal with cases pertaining to violence against women and children. This demand has come after repeated cases of sexual violence against  women and children in the state, the latest being a rape of a minor girl in Koloriang. This is the third case of rape of minors in July month alone.

Society has called for trial of the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) 2012.

Earlier, Gumri Ringu, the president of the Society spoke to the Kurung Kumey district administration headed by Mamta Riba who assured to provide necessary compensation as well as extend all possible help to the rape survivor. She further said that accused will not be let out from the jail, the Society informed.

ITANAGAR, Jul 31:  Governor of Arunachal Pradesh J.P. Rajkhowa  in a message on the eve of  World Breast Feeding Week celebration   (1-7 August 2015) has greeted  all the mothers of Arunachal Pradesh, particularly breast feeding mothers.

In a message he has said that "at the workplace level, more particularly at various construction sites where women are engaged in large numbers, suitable actions need to taken to set up breastfeeding or mother friendly workplaces including awards for breast feeding friendly employers, as well as greater mass awareness on women's rights to breastfeed and infants' right to be breastfed which is universally recognised as the healthiest of foods for the infants".

Breastfeeding is a unique way of providing ideal food for the healthy growth and development of infants and it is also an integral part of the reproductive process with important implications for the health of mothers", he added.

In addition to the health advantages of breast-feeding for mothers and their children, there are economic benefits associated with breast feeding that can be realised by families, employers, private and government organisations, and the nation as a whole, he added in a message.

 

 

Arunachal gets Industrial Safety & Hygiene Laboratory

ITANAGAR, Jul 31: The Industrial Safety & Hygiene Laboratory has been set up at Directorate of Industries, Itanagar.

Takhe Tamo, Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories & Boilers informed that there has been direction from the National Human Right Commission to set up the Laboratory in every State to look after the safety, health and environment of the workers in Factories.

Inaugurating it today, Parliamentary Secretary (Industries and Skill Development & Employment Generation) Tatung Jamoh appreciated the Department for setting up the Laboratory and also stressed on awareness on safety, health and environment on all factories located in different parts of the State.

Tamiyo Tatak, Director Industries cum Chief Inspector of Factories stressed for mandatory safety precautionary measures of all workers of the factories.

 

 

Awareness campaign on drug abuse, AIDS and POSCO Act 2012

Tawang, July 30 : A sensitization programme for girl students on drug abuse, Protection of Children from Sexual Harassment Offences Act '2012 and AIDS" was convened under the banner of district level awareness programme on POSCO Act, 2012 at Kakaling middle school, yesterday.

Reportedly, the Rs 3 lakhs  for the ALC barrack was released from the untied fund of the ADC Dambuk. However, even after completion and handing over, the barrack is not habitable. As per reports, the thatched roof of the bamboo walled structure leaks when it rains. The doors have been made of old rustic CGI sheets nailed into what seems like, branches of trees. The floor too is not concrete.

President of the Mandal BJP Datik Ratan informed that he procured the information about this ALC barrack after filing an RTI. "The condition is pathetic and not in a condition to be occupied by humans. The rooms are still not occupied by the workers because of this reason, but ironically, on my visit there, many pigs could be seen in the rooms of the barrack, making it seem like a pig farm", said Ratan.

"Developmental works should be executed properly and not just to pocket the fund", he added.

 

 

ANYA unit demands immediate shifting of Govt establishments to Tali HQs

ITANAGAR, Jul 31: All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA), Kra-Daadi district unit has demanded the state government for immediate shifting of Tali ADC HQs., Police Station and PWD division to Tali town.

Although infrastructure for accommodation of those establishments have already been created at Tali, the same have not been shifted to the designated administrative headquarters till date causing great inconvenience to the public, the district ANYA unit said in its representation to the Chief Minister.

Alleging absenteeism by the circle officers of Kra-Daadi, the ANYA unit demanded the Chief Secretary to instruct those COs to report for duty in their respective offices or posting places immediately.

It also demanded to make the 50-bed Hospital at Palin functional without any further delay.

The hospital constructed under NEC Scheme at Palin many years ago is yet to be operationalized due to reason best known to the concern authority, the representation said.

Since Kra-Daadi has been bifurcated from Kurung Kumey district and the district needs its own district hospital, the 50-bed hospital should be converted into District Hospital of Kra-Daadi, the association said.

Further, the ANYA unit sought the intervention of the CS for early activation of base trans-receiver stations (mobile tower) at Meer, Yangte and Chambang.

Eagle Trophy begins today

ITANAGAR, Jul 31: For the first in the history of Arunachal football, two overseas players will be seen performing at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium during the 6th Eagle Trophy Football Tournament.

Nirjuli United Football Club (NUFC) has roped in two Nigerian players, who will be the star attraction of the tournament.

Todo United, who will take on Capital Complex Sporting Club in the inaugural match tomorrow, has hired six players from Sikkim.

Gora Makik Sporting Club also was not in the behind in the race for hiring players from outside the state. The team has hired four players from Manipur while Gungte Togung SC has included one from Assam.

Altogether, 10 teams will fight it out for the top honour.

All the participating teams are divided into two groups of five with winners and runners of each group advancing into the semifinals.

Sports Authority of Arunachal Chairman Gora Makik will kick off the Championship at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun tomorrow 1:30 PM.

Nirjuli United Sporting Club will play against Arunachal Pradesh Police Team in the second match of the day at 3:30 pm

The final will be played on August 15.

 

 

Govt starts proposal for building 4 rail lines along China border

NEW DELHI, Jul 31: Government today said it has initiated the proposal for construction of 1,352 km long four strategic railway lines along the China border.

The Defence Ministry has identified four strategic lines along India-China border -- Missamari-Tenga-Tawang (378 km), Bilaspur-Manali-Leh (498 km), Pasighat-Tezu-Rupai (227 km) and North Lakhimpur-Bame-Silapathar (249 km), Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.

The Railway Ministry has requested the Defence Ministry to convey approval to carry out final location survey at an estimated cost of Rs 345 crore and provide the necessary funds.

Sinha, however, said none of these projects has been sanctioned.

"The time of completion and cost cannot be ascertained till completion of the final location survey and detailed geo-technical studies, as all these projects pass through very difficult terrains of young Himalayas," he said.  PTI

Valid point

An important point has been raised by Arunachal Pradesh Graduate Engineers Association (APGEA) which needs serious consideration by everyone. APGEA has called upon government of Arunachal Pradesh to issue directives to the engineering departments of the state to immediately impose blanket ban on engineering Degree/Diploma certificates obtained through distance education which are not approved by AICTE for promotion and appointment to Group-A & B posts. Engineering departments are considered to be vital part in the development process of state. Major infrastructure projects are planned and executed by them.

 Therefore government should recruit well qualified engineers. If state government starts recognizing engineering degree obtained through distance education then it will be seriously compromising with future of the state. Also All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) vide its Public Notice Advt. No.UB/03(03)2010, dated March 13, 2010 had made it clear that Diploma or Degree or Post Graduate degree obtained in Engineering through distance education is not recognized. Keeping this notification in mind the Arunachal government should immediately issue order banning the acceptance of degree or diploma through distance education mode. This should be done for the betterment of coming generation.

Proper age verification needed

Dear Editor,

As the 3rd Dorjee Khandu Badminton Memorial Championship-2015 is being organized, the players are also invited accordingly from every part of the state in order to get talented shuttlers. But it was noticed during last year’s championship, that due to non-verification or proper checking of ages, 16-17Yrs aged candidates were playing in under-10 or under-13 categories which looks very odd and discouraging for actual age players.

As a badminton lover of the state, I request the chairman/Secretary of Organizing Committee of the championship to start necessary age verification drive in respect of under-13, under-15, under-17 & 19 so that the players participate in the championship in their actual age categories.

Through the precious columns of your esteemed daily, I would like to express my satisfaction & appreciation for APPSC for successful conduction of APPSCCE (MAIN) 2013-14 in a peaceful & fair manner. Displaying of sealed question papers by the invigilators & using of mobile phone network jammer in and around exam hall during examination are highly appreciated which I feel will certainly develop confidence & faith in APPSC in the minds of the aspirants.   

Besides, I would like to request APPSC to provide provision for online mark sheet checking along the lines of UPSC to avoid cumbersome & long process of RTI which is currently being used by the candidates to check their marks.

We would like to state that the write up is a malicious act intended to spoil our name. We would like to clarify through your newspaper that our college is one of the oldest Hotel Management College in the North Eastern Region approved by AICTE since 2007 vide File no. ASSAM/HMCT/01/12/2006. For reference visit the AICTE website.

Suffering at the hands of traffic dons

Dear Editor,

Through your esteemed daily, I would like to share few lines with my fellow Arunachal about the Traffic Civics.

Nowadays our state Arunachal Pradesh is getting very popular for being “Land of khusi-marzi” instead of “Land of rising sun”. True to this synonym, one can see the best example at G-Extension Road.

The people who park their vehicles at G-Extension seem to be competing with each other in “who can cover more road space.

And, in this competition, some people even go to the extent of parking their vehicle at the center of the road, thereby leaving other competitors behind. And after parking there for 1-2 hours and after creating a long traffic jam, they walk out of some nearby shop with head held high, chest enlarged and holding a Red Bull or Power (depending on size of purse), as if claiming, “I am the winner today”.

And in the mean time, when other people who are stuck in the jam starts yelling, the person instead yells back at them “Rasta itna bara dikhai nai detai kya? Tera baap ka rasta hai kya” .

This is not just one day or one hour drama but it has become day to day drama of G-Extension Road. These people, even though they may have cars, SUVs etc., but they seriously lack Traffic Civics. Every now and then we read on newspapers about “Traffic Awareness Campaign” organized at different locations. But don’t know what awareness they impart to the people. Though, they may organize it somewhere somehow, because they have to somehow spend the fund allocated for Traffic Awareness, without caring if it really benefited anyone or not.

So, through this column, I request the authorities concerned to please kindly look into this matter and if possible please deploy some personnel at the said location to check the traffic system and so that non-competitors don’t have to suffer due to those competing traffic dons.
